Beauty Hydration: 10 Days to More Youthful Skin

In terms of overall health, hydration is extremely important. Today we’re going to concentrate on why it’s important for beauty. 

People talk about “beauty sleep”. I’d say equally as essential is “beauty hydration”.




I’m often asked about my skin and what I do to keep it looking glowing and youthful. I’d say one of the big ‘secrets’ is veganism. Having a plant-based diet provides many benefits, including more youthful looking skin (and a clearer conscience). Then there are various products I use on it. But I’d say staying super hydrated may be the biggest key.

The majority of the body is made up of water, and it’s crucial for organ function. As the skin is our biggest organ (though it’s often not thought of as an organ), proper hydration is essential for its health. Proper hydration keeps your skin soft, supple and smooth. Furthermore, it helps plump up our skin. You might notice after a day of hiking or a night of drinking that you can see more lines on your face. This is not an illusion. Dehydration de-plumps, and can make you look older.

Hydrated skin also allows a protective barrier to remain intact against radiation, toxins and bacteria. And water helps flush harmful toxins from the system. The general recommended daily amount to drink is 64 ounces. But if you exercise, live in a dry or very hot climate or take certain medications, you should increase this amount.




Drinking enough water is imperative. Another way to help with your skin’s hydration level is by using moisturizers. The ideal time to use them is immediately after washing your face or taking a shower. Your pores are more open then and can “drink in” in the moisturizer more effectively. As I mentioned earlier, I use a combination of different products (which I’ll get into in other posts, stay tuned). Some of my favorite things to use on my skin post-wash are oils: coconut, avocado, almond, castor, etc. A little goes a long way.


A lot of people say to me, “ugh I would drink more water, but it’s so boring“. I happen to love filtered water just as it is. Yes I’m weird. But if you find it boring, there are many ways to add some excitement and flavor to it! You can add powders like Crystal Light. Or you can squeeze lemon and/or lime into it. One of the best options is to get an infuser. There are individual-sized water bottle versions and full pitcher versions. For example, see below. It’s a great investment for your health.



I recommend keeping a bottle or glass of water near you pretty much all the time. It’s better for your body if you’re consistently taking it in rather than waiting till you’re parched then drinking a gallon. If you really have a hard time with it, you could even set alarms on your phone to remind you to drink.

I guarantee that if you haven’t been drinking enough water and you start to, you WILL see a difference in your skin. It will be more buoyant and youthful. Your entire body will thank you. Our bodies do so much for us, we have to remember to give back.




  1. Go take a picture of your face.
  2. Buy some lemons, limes, drink powders, fruit infuser pitcher  –  whatever you need to get yourself to drink more water.
  3. Eat more high-water-content foods  –  such as fruits and vegetables.
  4. For the next 10 days, make sure you drink at least 64 ounces of water. Every day.
  5. After the last day, take another picture of your face in the same lighting as the first picture. Compare~
